City of Games Australia

An urgent move from a broken OpenCart store to Shopify, done in four weeks

City of Games is an Australian electronics and gaming retailer. Its OpenCart store was broken, so we moved it to Shopify in four weeks, kept its look, rebuilt the features it had lost and kept its search rankings.

The challenge

A broken store, and no time to lose

Six things had to be solved.

01 · Platform

A store that had stopped working

The OpenCart store was broken, and the business needed a reliable platform urgently.

02 · Browsing

A large catalog, little filtering

Hundreds of games, consoles and board games sat in long lists that could be sorted but not filtered.

03 · Checkout

A long checkout

OpenCart’s checkout ran through six steps before an order was placed.

04 · Layout

An ageing layout

The old layout looked dated and had to work well on mobile.

05 · Search

Rankings at risk

Years of search visibility could be lost if old addresses stopped working.

06 · Team

A smooth hand-over

The team needed to run the new store on its own, with sales uninterrupted.

The solution

A Shopify store that does what the old one did, and more

One answer for each challenge.

Platform and design

A reliable Shopify store, live in four weeks

We moved the store’s data to Shopify, carried the brand’s look over with a cleaner layout and made the site mobile-responsive.

Homepage

A homepage that leads with offers

Free shipping within Australia and international shipping from $15 now sit at the top. Deals of the week carry discount badges, and pre-orders, featured tabletop games and a shop-by-platform row follow.

Filtering

Advanced filtering for a wide catalog

Collection pages now filter by platform, with product counts, a grid and list view and sorting. A single platform collection holds more than 300 products.
